Match RECAP: Puebla
#3 heber medrano(puebla) was issued a caution for unsporting behavior. #11 carlos garcia was issued a caution for a slide tackle within playing distance of another player. #1 bernie casas was issued a caution for dissent while he was not a player on the field. He verbally dissented a call and continued to dissent as I asked him to be quiet and showed him the yellow. He then came onto the field using foul and abusive language towards me. He said " you fucking suck! you suck!..." I asked him him to calm down and leave the field. he got in my face at that time i showed him the red for foyul and abusive language. I then asked him to lerave the field and advised that the authorities would be called if he did not. He proceded to carry on and refused to leave the field area. I aske his team to remove him before more severe action was taken. they tried and failed. bernie was adamant about not leaving the field area and continued to use foul and abusive language towards me. As there was about 10 mins left in the game and Bernie refused to quiet down and leave the playing area I felt my safety and the safety of my crew was threatened. As such I felt there was no choice but to abbandon the game at that point and advised the Mach1 team that this incident was being written up as a verbal abuse of a referee. a couple of the Mach 1 team came up to me and said " this should have happened a long time ago." I have refereed for almost 20 years, and never have feared for the safety of myself or my crew than I did today. this coupled with the fact that several of the Mach 1 team came to me after the abbandonment and thanked me speakes volumes. I can only hope the league and the state take appropriate action to prevent this from happening again in the future.
